Riverwalk + MIP

My day started with an easy 3.07 mile run on the Augusta Riverwalk, which is adjacent to my hotel. The photo is of a fountain outside the Marriott. Behind the fountain is the Riverwalk. It was a nice place to run, but the riverwalk wasn't as long as I had hoped it would be. It was very beautiful running along the Savannah River as the sun was rising! But I was a bit nervous seeing homeless-looking people digging through the trash cans, but there were plenty of walkers/joggers to keep me feeling safe. During the run, I thought more about registering for the Augusta half marathon which will be held on November 1, 2009. Think I will definitely register for it if Kyra is going to be with her dad.

Then I drove to Barnwell to watch the investigation going on at the Shuron Inc. Superfund Site. The consultant is using Geoprobe to drill down into the ground to 60 feet deep. They are using a Membrane Interface Probe to try to determine if there is volatile organic compounds in the soil, as well as to better define the extent of the ground water contamination. Inside the van is a mobile chemistry lab. I am so loving this day!!! I miss simple chemistry! This was so much more exciting than sitting in my office reading email, reports, etc. Woo hoo!
