Now this blog is totally a proud mommy blog post. Kyra was invited to join the Junior Beta Club, which is an honor society for kids starting in 5th grade that have high grade point averages, are considered leaders, and are recommended by their teachers. If I remember correctly, the kids selected to join at Kyra's school had to have a grade point average of 3.9 (Kyra has a 4.0). A week or two ago, the teachers selected two people from each class to have speaking parts in the induction program which was held today. Kyra volunteered and was selected to read the introduction. She did great!
Another part of the program was receiving of certificates and pinning. Parents that were present, went up front and put the Junior Beta Club pin on their child's shirt after they received their certificate. Joe and I both attended. I had arrived before him and picked up her envelope. I offered for him to pin her, but he deferred to me and said he would take a photo with my camera while I did so. We chatted about how we were both in Beta Club when we were younger too. I had tears in my eyes while pinning her; I was so proud! Another touching moment was when Anthony's dad pinned another boy; the boy's parents weren't able to be there and Mike had coached the boy in football. So sweet!
A reception was held afterwards with cake, juice and coffee. Joe and I noted that all of Kyra's closest friends (Colleen, Sophia, Bryn, Bryce, Grace, Tyler, Savannah, etc.) were also selected to be the "nerd club" too. I'm so proud of all of them!
