I was registered to participate in the XTERRA Pig Trail 10K race tomorrow in Macon. Before going to sleep last night I packed my gear, laid out my clothes/shoes/nutrition, and set my alarm clock for 4:30 a.m. I then settled on the couch watching a silly movie. Riley and I slept on the couch. Each time he woke he coughed. When my alarm clock sounded at 4:30 a.m. I wondered if I should leave him. The trail race is in Macon, a 2-hour drive away. That means I would be gone at least 6-7 hours counting the commute each way, getting there early, the race, awards, food. When I got up, he stirred and coughed. He continued coughing, almost choking as I puttered around. I realized that he's worse now than he was yesterday and decided that I should probably stay home with him and possibly take him to the vet. So I laid back down on the couch and he cuddled close.
We woke up a few hours later and I ate breakfast and started ironing. My laundry room is full of clothes waiting to be ironed. He didn't eat breakfast. Riley laid on the couch while I ironed while watching TV. I can't believe I spent most of the day ironing? I need to get back into the routine of ironing every Sunday so it doesn't pile up this high! As long as Riley was asleep, he seemed okay. He only coughed when he moved around. I debated about taking him to the vet but knew a Sunday visit would be extra $$$. Later in the day he started wrestling with Tasha and even ate a little so I thought maybe he's getting better. Although I would have loved to do that Trail race, I don't regret staying home with Riley. I got a good bit accomplished around the house, but there's a ton more that needs to be done. I mowed the yard late afternoon and picked up all the flower pot fragments, broken toys, etc., in hopes of preventing a choking hazard. I planned out my week to get back on track with running and went to bed around 9:30 p.m. to read a few minutes and then go to sleep. Riley snuggled up right beside me with his head on my shoulder. Awwwww....
