Independence Day

Wow, what an awesome day! I got up early and ran the Peachtree Road Race 10K (that's 6.2 miles for those of you that aren't keen on the metric system). I've run that race many times over the past two decades but this year was by far the best. If you'd like to read my race report, click on the preceeding "race report" to go to the entry in my running blog.

I was exhausted after the race and went home, showered, and took a nap. After my long nap, I got up and packed to go to the Magill's lake house. About a dozen families were there to celebrate Independence Day. Fun times were had in the pool, jumping off the upper level of the dock, riding jet skis, boating, hanging out, etc. Everyone brought a side dish or dessert to share and the Magill's provided roasted pork, hamburgers, hot dogs, and bratwursts. And as the sun was setting, we returned to the dock and I settled into a lounge chair next to great friends. Dr. Levengood provided an awesome fireworks show as we watched from the dock. Wow, LIFE IS GOOD!!! I'm so grateful to have such wonderful friends! I enjoyed catching up with Tonya and hearing about her European vacation as well as her recent running adventures. And Lisa made me feel good about my "slow" running pace. Karolin wants to work up to running a 5K in the Fall and she asked if I'd run it with her. Of course! I had fun hanging out in the raft with Beverly, Carol, Pat and Greg and am grateful they didn't tip me into the lake. And it was so good to see the Baham's again... it's been weeks... And I was very pleasantly surprised to see Curt, my former physical therapist, and proudly told him that I ran a marathon in October and am training to do another one with Tonya and Lisa this coming October. He's such a great person and I'm extremely thankful for his skills as a physical therapist during the 5 months of PT after my ACL/meniscus surgery a few years ago. I also enjoyed spending time with the Franklins, Ruffs, Richardsons, and Deedee; and meeting Will's sister. I'm probably forgetting to mention someone, so please forgive me. I normally feel bad attending family events without Kyra. I had moments of wishing she were there to enjoy the fun with her friends, but I was constantly entertained by with wonderful conversations that my thoughts of missing her were fleeting. I hope she had a wonderful holiday at camp! This was definitely my best 4th of July holiday ever!
