I forgot to mention in yesterday's blog post that after we finished dinner at Pineapple Willy's we stopped at a store to by innertubes (and sunscreen, and a ball that bounces on water). I also looked at chairs but couldn't decide, and was tired, so didn't make that purchase (which I regret today). Kyra had seen somewhere two intertubes that connected and wanted that. I thought the more sensible option was individual intertubes that had handles on them so you could hold onto each other if you wanted, or float individually. So I made the executive decision and bought three intertubes with handles.
After breakfast we blew up the intertubes. Colleen is amazing and blew up hers and Kyra's lightening quick! In the first photo, Kyra is being a silly
Michelin man. Ha Ha!!! The second photo is of the two silly girls before we headed out to the beach. I was so glad to see Colleen wearing the t-shirt from the Pumpkin Chase 5K race that we did for Kyra's 8th birthday a few years ago! Brought back the memories. Fun, but not-so-fun, times.
We had a lot of fun this morning floating on the intertubes in the ocean. I went out with the girls. Kyra was nervous about the waves and didn't want to go out too far, while Colleen was fearless! I stood the middle ground and held Colleen back a little while at the same time pushing Kyra's comfort edge.
After spending time in the ocean we had fun playing in the sand. Colleen made sandcastles with the Pineapple Willy bucket while I buried Kyra. You can't really tell from this photo, but I gave her sand boobs and a big belly. What fun!
I picked up Subway sandwiches (from across the street) for lunch and we ate by the pool. We spent several hours at the pool, then went back to intertubing in the ocean and then returned to the pool. Later in the afternoon, I was reading a book in a lounge chair by the pool and I looked up to see Kyra and Colleen talking to another girl that looked to be about their age in the pool. I thought that it was great that they made a new friend! As I was thinking this, Colleen hopped out of the pool and came over and said that Sidney, from their school (and was in Colleen's class last year and in their science olympics group) was here. I should have known better than to think that they made a new friend. But what a coincidence that someone else from our little town is vacationing at the same time and at the same hotel!
Because the girls were having fun in the pool with Colleen's friend (Kyra barely knows Sidney), and they wanted to watch the Polynesian show this evening, we didn't have much time for dinner. So we decided to eat at the hotel restaurant since they were having a seafood buffet. Kyra doesn't like seafood, but Colleen and I were excited about it. Kyra ate off the kids menu and enjoyed macaroni and cheese. Kyra was very cranky before her meal arrived. Roald, who works in the restaurant noticed this and came over and offered Kyra ice cream while she was waiting (and Colleen and I were eating our salad). Kyra said no thank you to him. I was surprised. When I asked her afterwards she said she knew I would say no. I told her that ice cream came with the kids meal and I wouldn't have minded if she ate it before or after her meal.
The girls finished eating before I did and were anxiously looking out the window at the pool as they were setting up for the Polynesian dancing. I told the girls they could go ahead and go outside to get a good seat while I finished eating and paid the check. They sat right by the stage and saved a place for me. When I arrived, the host was requesting kids to come on stage and dance. I urged Kyra and Colleen to go up there, but they wouldn't budge. Maybe I shouldn't have done that... So next, they asked for adult volunteers. Kyra and Colleen began pleading with me to go on stage and I was refusing them. But this caught the eye of Chief KaHooEE an
d he said, "And you mam, your children want you to come on stage so please join me." He was cute and since I had taunted the girls, I easily agreed. Of course this totally embarrassed Kyra. Especially when he asked if I was married, I said I was single, and he said he was too (wink wink).
After the Polynesian show, I went back to the room to get drinks and saw this amazing sunset. Gorgeous!!! I returned to the girls with drinks, they had grabbed popcorn, and we settled into chairs and enjoyed watching the movie Bolt by the pool. What a great vacation we're having!
