Cool chic

Brrrrr.... It's still cold outside! It was 17 degrees this morning! The forecast calls for snow this afternoon. Thankfully, Kyra dressed appropriately for it today. Yesterday she insisted on wearing short sleeves (and a jacket). Today she wore a cami, long-sleeve shirt, fleece hoodie, scarf, hat, and winter coat. Guess she realized that maybe mommy was right yesterday when I tried to talk her into changing into warmer clothes before leaving the house... Yay!!!  This photo is one of many zany poses she did this morning. We were actually ready to leave 10 minutes before the earliest possible school drop off time, so we had fun playing model/photographer.
It started snowing around 3 p.m. this afternoon. I worked from home today so Kyra rode the bus home from school. As soon as she walked in the door, she dropped her backpack and told me that she was going over to Zoe's house. Normally Zoe comes over to our house shortly after they get off the bus on days that I work from home. I was deeply involved in responding to work e-mails and gladly let her go across the street. Kyra and Zoe played in the snow and at Zoe's house until almost 6 p.m. The came back to our house just as I was about to call her to come home. She asked if she could go with Zoe to someone else's house. I had to say no. She has homework to do, dinner to eat, etc. At this point, school hasn't been cancelled for tomorrow, so we need to make sure she's prepared for school tomorrow. Kyra didn't seem to mind me saying no, almost seemed relieved.

Zoe left, Kyra started homework, and I began cooking dinner. I made meatballs again from a recipe in the magazine Clean Eating.  I'm not sure what I did differently tonight from the last time I made this recipe (last week), but the meatballs didn't stick together as well as last time. Was the meat too lean? Did I use too much quinoa? It still tasted good, but the texture was off.

At bedtime, her school still wasn't listed on the school closing list. So we set the alarm clock for a normal school day and I assured her that I would wake up early, check the school closing list, and turn off her alarm clock if school was closed. Although I have lots of work to do at the office, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for more snow!
