Orthodontist - spacers

Today was Kyra's first orthodontist appointment (not counting the evaluation/ estimate appointment). We knew in the summer of 2009 that she needed braces, but put it off to 2010 to take advantage of the Health Savings Plan so it could be funded from pre-tax dollars. In the interim, we researched several orthodontists and decided on the first one we visited, which was our dentist's recommendation, as well as several friends' recommendation.  We went in today for her molds/x-rays and my commitment to the financial aspects.  They also inserted "spacers" between her top molars to separate those teeth enough so that braces could be applied around them.  She's going to have braces on her top teeth first, and after the overbite is reduced, they will put on the bottom braces. Not sure why, but she staged and took this photo this afternoon between orthodontist appointment and basketball practice, so thought I would share.
