Valentine's Day Party; Riley comes home

I took today off of work so I could host Kyra's class' Valentine's Day Party as well as take care of Riley. Kyra's class party began at 10:15 a.m. I had sent out an e-mail to parents about 2 weeks ago asking for volunteers to send in specific items. On Monday, I sent out another email confirming what people had said they would send in. For some reason, this morning I wondered if I should bring in extra snacks. I guess my instinct was right on target. I didn't bring in anything extra, but one parent didn't deliver. Oh well... The kids enjoyed the party anyway... We had snacks and I brought in a craft and music. They made cards for their parents (or grandparents or siblings or aunts/uncles, etc.). Mrs. Walker had them fill in compliment sheets for each other. Then we turned on Kyra's iPod and they danced to the "Cupid Shuffle". Kyra's dad and stepmother came as well as Summer's grandparents. I was grateful for their help. The kids seemed to enjoy the party. I ate lunch with Kyra and enjoyed seeing Cassidy (Kyra's friend that moved during the summer to Michigan but is here this weekend for a visit). Quite a few people commented on how they love my new haircut. (I got it cut shorter yesterday.)

After the party, I ran a few errands and then picked up Riley from the vet. He was happy to see me and if I didn't know better I wouldn't have guessed he'd had surgery. The vet instructed me to keep him calm for the next 10 days: no stairs, no running, no playing, potty by walking on the leash, etc. Yikes! How am I going to manage? Kyra is spending this weekend with her dad but she was very upset/worried about Riley. She got up in the middle of the night crying Wednesday night at Joe's house, worrying about Riley. So Joe agreed to let me pick her up from school and let her have a few minutes with Riley before I took her to meet him (instead of him picking her up at Day Care). I picked Kyra up after school, took her home and she spent a few minutes hanging out with Riley. It flew too quickly so I suggested that we take him with us on the drive to go to her dad. All was well. Joe opened the back door and wanted to pet Riley, but Riley was shy. We sat/stood there with the door open (and Kyra and Riley still inside) for several minutes. When it came time for Kyra to get out of the car, Riley jumped out with her faster than we could stop him. He started running across the parking lot and we were all three chasing him. I started panicking thinking that the vet strictly prescribed "NO RUNNING" for 10 days! Miraculously, he stopped at the end of the parking lot, rather than bolting off into the woods, and came back to us. My heart was racing. After we got him back into the car, Kyra left with her dad and then we drove home. I've had a fever all day, so I collapsed into bed shortly afterwards. I'm hoping for a better day tomorrow...
