Ally's birthday party + Chicago registration

Kyra and Ally have been friends since kindergarten. They met on the first day of school that year. They were in the same kindergarten class and then the same day care. They became close friends that year and have remained friends over the years. This year they are in the same 4th grade class together, as well as continuing at the same day care. Ally's 10th birthday party is tonight. The theme is High School Musical and the girls were asked to come dressed as their favorite character. Since Kyra's really into basketball, she said she wanted to be "Troy". Since she's spending this weekend with her dad, I had sent her uniform to him a few days ago. He took this photo and emailed it to me this evening. Little did we know that I'd end up seeing her after all...

Last night Kyra had pleaded with me to let her take her Nintendo DS with her to Ally's party, because Ally just got a DS for her birthday a few days ago and she wanted Kyra to bring hers so they could play some game together. I said no because I didn't think it would be appropriate for her and Ally to play while the other girls at the party sat watching. She said that Ally would be mad at her. I told her we could invite Ally over on another day and the two of them could play Nintendo for as long as they wanted to. Little did I know...

I work on what's called a "flexible schedule". I can work up to two extra hours each day and then can use those credit hours when needed. So when Kyra spends the night with her dad, I usually work late (and go in very early the next morning). So, tonight I worked until 6:30 and as I was driving home, Kyra called me from Ally's house. She asked if I would bring her DS to her. She said that all the other girls, except one, had brought theirs and that Ally's mom had an extra one that the other girl could use. She said I could talk to Ally's mom if I wanted. Shannon was very sweet and said that if I had other plans she would have the girls do something else... I told her I was on my way home, and that Kyra had left her DS in my car, so I could easily drop it off in about 30-45 minutes. When I got there, they were all happily eating hamburgers. What cute costumes! One girl was dressed as "Ryan" and she looked so much like him with her naturally white-blond hair and blue eyes.

During my "lunch break" I looked on-line at the Chicago Marathon website. Registration is still open and the website said it would close at 45,000 participants. So I wrote that tid-bit on Tonya's Facebook page. She wrote back saying that she had registered for it last night. So tonight when I finally got home, I went online and registered too... We're in!
