State tournament: Redan girls nip Parkview in thriller

After going to the Parkview Lady Panthers basketball game in the first round of the State championship playoffs two weeks ago, I promised Kyra that I would take her to future games as the team progressed. The Final Four games were held today at the Gwinnett Arena. I've been working a lot of overtime lately, so I used some of those "credit hours" and left work early today so I could take her to the game. Kyra's school lets out at 3:20 and Parkview's game began at 4 p.m. Kyra was in tears as we were driving, afraid that all the tickets would be sold out since I hadn't bought them in advance. I reassured her that it was a very large arena and highly doubtful that all tickets would be sold. We arrived in the arena parking lot at 3:55 p.m. Kyra bounded out of the car and sprinted to the arena entrance.

We found great seats when we walked in during the middle of the first quarter. Parkview was behind by about 7 points when we got there. The first quarter ended with Redan ahead. But Parkview picked up the pace in the next three quarters. The photo is of Morgan Mitchell, Parkview High School senior (white and orange) making a free-throw shot. The heading of this blog is from the AJC news article. It was truly a thriller game! Parkview was ahead in the last quarter and then Redan made a comeback. Parkview used their last two timeouts within the last 30 seconds of the game. They used a fouling strategy to put them back in the game. With only seconds left, Parkview was down by 4 points. As the buzzer rang, Morgan Mitchell (Kyra's idol) made an amazing 3-pointer shot to bring the final score up to 63-64. Many tears were shed...
