renewal

I took today off of work to prepare for my new year. Birthdays were always a big deal to my mom. So for many years, I've bought myself a gift for my birthday, claiming that it was from her. This year I was perplexed at what to buy. I've been wanting to lose weight for years now without much success of accomplishing it on my own. I had thought that I would certainly lose weight training for a marathon, but I gained 5 pounds instead. I tried Weight Watchers and couldn't get enthusiastic about it. The thought of the Atkins diet, which at one time I had so much success on, wasn't appealing either. So this year I decided to hire a sports nutritionist as my birthday gift to help me lose weight and yet still have enough energy to maintain my running addiction.

I started out my day by dropping Kyra off at school and then went to get the annual emissions test done on my car. After passing that, I went to the Tag office to pay for me new decal. Next was a trip to Borders to pick up the new Book Club book, Runaway. That was followed by a trip to the nail salon for a manicure and eyebrow waxing.

Next I returned home for an hour for a quick lunch (lean cuisine), then off to my appointment with Ilana Katz, certified nutritionist. I spent an hour and a half with her. She weighed me, measured my body fat percentage and asked me questions about my current eating and exercise habits. She suggested my major problem is not eating often enough. She said that I should eat every 2-3 hours consisting of about 4 ounces of protein and an earthy carbohydrate (fruits, sweet potatoes, oatmeal, etc.) with as many vegetables as I desired. She said this would boost my metabolism since my body currently thinks it is in starvation mode most of the time. I left with a hand full of papers and a food log and committed to incorporating as many of her suggestions as possible over the next few weeks. I set a follow-up appointment for two weeks later. It's a lot of information to process, so my primary goal is to incorporate at least 1-2 new things a week, starting tomorrow.

Next, I had a hair appointment. The hair colorist and cutter that I've gone to the last few times were both out of the salon today so I had made an appointment with different people from the same salon since I really wanted to get my hair done today. This turned out to be a blessing! I brought in a picture and told Blair that I hoped she wasn't shy with the scissors because Preston hadn't cut it short enough the last two times. I love the way Sierra colored my hair and the cut that Blair gave me is better than what I anticipated. I left the salon feeling so happy that I finally had the hair that I've been wanting for months! Thanks Sierra and Blair! You are awesome!
