Happy Birthday Shawn!

Nothing exciting happened in our lives today, so I just wanted to dedicate this blog to my friend Shawn. Happy birthday Shawn! Many, many years ago, I met Shawn at Mercer University. Mercer had a summer program that they invited high-achieving high school juniors (or was it sophomores?) to attend. My mom and I thought that it was a wonderful opportunity, so I attended the six week session. I still remember shopping for sheets and towels, although that was about 25 years ago. Shawn was my roommate and we clicked right away. Her birthday is 3 days after mine so that made us instant close friends. I remember talking for hours that first day realizing we had a lot in common. Having a great roommate certainly made that summer experience wonderful. Everyone in the program took 2 classes. It was a great introduction to college. Shawn and I visited each other once or twice a year for several years afterwards. She lived in Cocoa Beach, FL, so I went to visit her more often than she came to Georgia. The last time I saw Shawn was in late October 2003. I took Kyra to Walt Disney World for her 5th birthday. Shawn and her oldest son met us there one day and we had a great time. We don't keep in touch as often as we used to, but I still think of her as a dear friend. So hear's a toast to you Shawn, wishing you an amazing birthday and many, many more!
