Snow Day

As hard as it was snowing yesterday, I suspected that they would cancel school. And as predicted, it happened. The dogs woke me at 5:30 a.m., I checked the school closings and then went back to bed. We got about 3 inches of snow at our house yesterday. This morning, our driveway and street were iced over. When Kyra woke, we finished reading Princess Charming. She went outside to pick ice-cicles while I made breakfast. She put a few in the freezer. I wonder how long they will last...
Kyra saw our neighbor kids (Kurt and Zoe) walking their dog (Katie). I saw the three of them talking outside, while I was on the phone (inside) with Kyra's dad. Kyra came inside to ask if she could walk with them. Of course I said yes, and a few minutes later her dad asked to speak to her. I told him I'd have her call him back when she returned. About 45 minutes later she returned home. She said they walked the block loop (1 mile) and stopped to sled with Meagan. She wanted to go over to Zoe's house, but I made her eat breakfast first. After breakfast, off she went to Zoe's house. I made a few phone calls to let work know I wouldn't be there today. Then I ran 4 miles on the treadmill. Karolin called around 12:30 wondering if the girls were here, saying she was on her way home from the gym and had picked up hamburgers for all the kids. How sweet! I told her that not only were the girls here, but the boys were too (her son and his friend). The kids spent the afternoon playing in our yard. Kyra said our yard had the most snow in the neighborhood. I'm glad they had fun! They played hard outside, all day long, while I paid bills, did laundry, downloaded photos, and worked on this blog. Later in the afternoon, the Thornhill kids arrived and they had even more fun with snowball fights.

I'm still in my running clothes, while the rice is on the stove. I haven't made it to the grocery store lately, so we're having rice and black beans. It's a favorite anyway...
