Tennis; Swimming; Book Club

I took a few hours of vacation time to leave work early so I could get Kyra to her first tennis practice on time. She's only done a few tennis clinics over the years but is really looking forward to her first ALTA season on a girls junior tennis team with her friends! We bought a new racket for her over the weekend since her old one is too small and my grip is too big. Now she's all set except she says she refuses to wear a tennis skirt... Maybe her friends will change her mind... The first tennis practice was interesting. A few girls have obviously played/practiced a lot more than the rest. Kyra definitely needs a lot more practice...

After tennis we rushed across the parking lot for swim lessons. I talked with Karolin while the kids swam. Karolin offered for Kyra to ride the bus home with Kurt and Zoe on swim practice days. Yay! So we tentatively planned for Kyra to do so on Thursday. After swimming we went home and made a quick dinner. Thankfully our babysitter agreed to return tonight so I could go to Book Club. This time she made sure she put her stuff out of Riley's reach!
I picked up Susan and drove us to Jennifer's house. There were only five of us, but it was nice to resume Book Club. It fell apart just before summer. We talked about people that we'd like to invite to join us. Jennifer had several books that she let us choose from. We easily narrowed it down to two since we didn't want to read about kids being kidnapped, and eventually picked The Tin Roof Blowdown by James Lee Burke. The setting is during Hurricane Katrina. She said she's read many books by this author and that his prose is exceptional. Jennifer fed us a delicious meal of grilled salmon with pasta as we talked about a variety of topics. YUM! Our next gathering will be at Connie's house on the third Monday of September.

It was a very busy day, but a happy one. Life is good!
