3rd annual mother's day at the ranch

This morning Kyra told me that I should ride Ghost because he has a smooth canter and that she wanted to ride a different horse. She didn't know which one. So Lance assigned her Sparky and I got Ghost. (Pictured from left to right: Sparky, Kyra, Ghost.) Kyra has never ridden Sparky, but I thought the name sounded familiar. Oh yeah... I've ridden Sparky in the past. Kyra was very disappointed when Sparky didn't have much spunk on the canter.  Our guide recommended that she ride Harley in the afternoon. I enjoyed riding Ghost, but liked Codey better.

So as soon as we finished lunch we went down to the stables to get in the front of the line. Unfortunately, a family of four beat us there, and the woman asked for Harley... Kyra was on the verge of tears. She settled for Ghost and the tears flowed freely as she walked out of the barn towards the corrals to get Ghost. There was no consoling her so I quit trying. Thankfully, she perked up on the ride while talking to our guide and enjoying Ghost's canter. I'm so happy she finally cheered up!

On our ride this afternoon was a couple vacationing for a week from Florida, and a woman who came up for the day from Macon. The woman from Macon asked to join us at dinner and we enjoyed talking with her. She said she used to ride horses with her mother and felt this was the best way to remember her mom on mother's day. And we totally related because going horseback riding at this ranch on mother's day has become a tradition for us. This is our third year. As usual, it was tough to leave. What a wonderful, bonding way to spend mother's day weekend. Memories to cherish! Hope you enjoy the photos of these two foals with their mommies!
