a day at the ranch

Our room at the horse ranch (Iroquois room) only has a few TV channels and we watched info-mercials last night until I couldn't take it anymore. Why do we watch info-mercials when we're away from home? When I mentioned getting up early to go for a run, Kyra asked me not to. She asked me to stay with her and not run this mother's day weekend. So I agreed. We woke this morning before the alarm clock went off. The sunlight was peaking in through the windows. We went out on the balcony and took photos of the sun rising over the trees in the pasture. Gorgeous view!

We sat on the balcony for a few minutes enjoying the beauty. I felt guilty for not running, but honestly, I'm so happy that I didn't so I could enjoy this amazing moment with Kyra!

At breakfast, a woman asked the few nearby tables if anyone had an extra pair of shoes and socks that she could borrow. She arrived last night in flip flops and realized this morning that she had forgotten to bring tennis shoes. A woman at the table that the she first addressed said she didn't have any extra shoes, but she did have some socks. I overheard and said that I had a pair of tennis shoes she could use.  It turns out that she and her daughter (Marilyn and Ally) are here for the first time. Ally is two years younger than Kyra and had never ridden a horse before. Kyra gave her a few pointers on horse riding. Marilyn was sweet and took this photo of us.

We had a great day of horse riding. This morning Kyra rode Macy (pictured) and I rode Codey. Macy was Kyra's favorite horse prior to this weekend; I have never ridden Codey but really enjoyed riding her. It was so peaceful spending hours on horseback on the trails in the woods! We saw a deer family and enjoyed honeysuckle as we rode along. During the morning ride, we only walked and trotted because two people in our group were double riders; a dad and a young daughter. Kyra was disappointed that we didn't canter. I didn't mind since the last time I cantered I was thrown off the horse. But... that was in November. So this afternoon I put Kyra's ideal ahead of my fears and requested that we be put in a group that could canter. Kyra rode Ghost this afternoon and I rode Codey again. I was nervous before the first canter, but didn't outwardly admit it. I was glad I had the morning to get to know Codey during walks and trots. The first canter went well. Each canter afterwards felt better and better. By the end of the ride I was so happy!!! Codey has a very smooth canter.  Nice...  I overcame my fear of cantering. Yay!

It was also VERY COOL to see the foals that are just days/weeks old. At lunch we talked about our favorite time of the year to come to the ranch. I think mine is Mother's Day because it's so endearing to watch the mommies with their baby foals on mother's day.

Kyra and I have fun in the game room before meals. We enjoyed playing pool, shuffle board, table hockey, tic-tac-toe and chess, as we wait for the bell to be rung for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I normally beat her in pool and chess, she beats me in shuffle board and hockey, and we tie in tic-tac-toe. Lots of fun!  We ate dinner with Marilyn and Ally, and afterwards, the girls went swimming while Marilyn and I sat on a rocker swing watching them and chatting. It was a very nice evening. What a great day!
