On the last day of school, every year they have a family picnic lunch with an extended lunch hour and a DJ. But 5th graders get a special treat. No classwork for them! They spend the entire day outside, participating in what is called "Survivor Day". I volunteered to assist with Survivor Day and was assigned as the lead for the Water Gun station. WHAT FUN we had! There were seven stations that the classes rotated through. Giant inflatable water slide, water gun station, wet bean bag carry, cotton candy, etc. The events started off with a tug of war between the classes. This is the only event that I had time to capture photographs. I was too busy in the water gun station to take photos. I had the best time! Our station had about 25-30 water guns. As the kids guns ran out of water, we volunteers refilled them. It was a hot day, so I was happy to be in a wet area! Towards the end, we parent volunteers started having more fun by dumping buckets of water on the kids or squirting them with the water hose. FUN FUN FUN!
Around 1 p.m. the Survivor Day activities came to an end and the kids went around to the front of the school to join in the family picnic. A huge surprise was awaiting them. A local fire truck was in the parking lot waiting to drench the 5th graders. They waited until the younger grades went back inside. Then the spraying began...
Woo hoo!
Soaked Kyra on her last day of 5th grade. (And yes, I went home and cried. The past 6 years have been amazing.)
