I stayed up late last night (actually until early this morning) on the phone with someone that I'll always consider as a close friend, despite the long distance and infrequency of our conversations. For some bizarre reason, we can talk for hours on the phone without hitting boredom. It was great catching up, and I truly appreciate the advice!
I only got 5 hours of sleep before going to work today. My original goal was to get to work at 6:30 a.m. so I could leave at 3 p.m. without having to take any vacation time off. But since I slept a little late, due to staying up so late, and because traffic was HORRIBLE, I didn't get to work until 8:30. My commute to work took an hour longer than usual this morning thanks to HORRIBLE traffic!
Anyway, I had a productive day at work and left at 3 to pick up Kyra. We had lots to do this afternoon. Her "Pioneer Day" sewing supplies have to be brought to school by tomorrow. So we first went to a fabric store and purchased a yard of gingham fabric (green and white checkerboard pattern). Then we went next door to Michael's craft store in hopes of finding the rest of the supplies. There we purchased pony beads, needles, thimbles, pins, quilting thread. But they didn't have "blanket binding". I had no idea what "blanket binding" was, but the salesperson at Michael's said JoAnn's carries it. So off we headed to JoAnn's. We arrived there at 5:20 p.m. I had originally thought we would be finished shopping in time for Kyra to go to swim lessons at 6, but it was obvious now that we weren't going to make it. With the help of a salesperson, we found the blanket binding. We took the fabric in the store with us so we could find the best color match. We got lucky and found a perfect color match!
Wow, Pioneer Day sewing supplies shopping trip took way longer than I anticipated! Since it was obvious we wouldn't make it back in time for swim lessons, we stopped by Horsetown East. I owe Kyra two presents for making all A's on her last two report cards and she wanted a Breyer horse. It took her a while to decide, but she finally selected a horse and English riding set to go with it. At check-out, they mentioned that they are having a Breyer Fun Day on Saturday, where kids get to paint a Breyer horse model and they'll have food, face painting, etc. Kyra wants to go, so we'll be heading there after horse riding lessons Saturday. At least Texas Road House resturant is supplying the "free food" so it should be a decent free lunch. At first, Kyra named her new horse Sioux, after the horse at Southern Cross Ranch. But during dinner, she decided to change his name to Nagoo, since the Breyer horse looks more like Nagoo (at Southern Cross Ranch) than Sioux. She's already made plans that her next Breyer horse purchase will look like, and be named Sioux...
The Canny collars that I ordered on the advice of the dog trainer arrived yesterday. We tested them on the dogs tonight on a 0.79 mile walk. Tasha HATED the collar since it didn't fit her face properly. The strap kept creeping up to her eyes. It worked great with Riley though, and he "walked nicely on the leash". I had also purchased cotton leashes from the same company. They are SO MUCH MORE COMFORTABLE in our hands than nylon or leather! Yippee!!!
