"We come here way too often" was Kyra's comment to me after the manager at our favorite Chinese restaurant came over to our table at lunch and commented on my shorter hair cut. I asked her if we should come less often and she immediately rejected that idea. It's nice to be recognized...
After lunch we stopped by the grocery store for a few items. It was raining lightly when we left Publix and it brought back a fond memory. A few years ago, during the warm season, Kyra and I ate dinner at a pizza restaurant called "The Loop", which is located in the same shopping center as Kroger. It was misting rain when we walked out of The Loop and we opted to risk it and walked to Kroger for a few groceries without the umbrella. Well, while we were shopping, it began pouring rain. We waited for a few minutes, but then opted to just push our cart through the torrential downpour to our car parked at the end of the lot at The Loop, while getting thoroughly soaked. I remember I was wearing flip-flops and I didn't care if my feet were getting soaked. And Kyra was standing on the back of the cart, like she usually does, with her back leaning against my chest as I pushed the cart to the car. No need to be in a hurry, we had fun playing in the rain. That particular day, years ago, reminded me of my childhood days of playing in the rain. What an amazing fond memory!

Today was our 3rd obedience training class with Riley. Kyra has been with her dad the last two Sundays so this was her first training class. Here she and Riley are in the middle of the training class, while Zander's mom is attempting the demonstration of "walking nicely on the leash". The lesson today included a review of "sit", "walk nicely" and the introduction of "down". I think Kyra did an excellent job as trainer of Riley. The non-leash holders were asked to sit on stools at the end of the row so the dogs would focus on their "leader". Riley gave Kyra a few hard times, when he wanted to play with his buddy Lucy, but overall, he did well. The instructor has a golden retriever. She asked Kyra what her future interests were and later told me that she expressed an interest in "agility" competitions. I had no idea... The instructor pointed out that Riley is "shy". He tucks his tail and quivers when someone new comes along. She suggested that we take him out more often to different environments so he won't be so nervous. She a
lso suggested bringing him to Pet'sMart on non-training days so he'll become more comfortable with the training environment and be able to focus more. So we took her advice, and after the class we went to a local park that has a fenced-in-off-leash-dog park. Riley was submissive at first, but had a great time playing with the other dogs and Kyra. Kyra taught him how to jump over a small agiligy "jump". I think she's serious about this agility competition...
We came home and I started ironing while Kyra watched TV. At 5:20, our neighbor, John, called and said that he needed to pick up his son from soccer practice but his daughter was sick and was napping. He asked if I would come sit at their house while he went to pick up his son so he wouldn't have to wake his daughter. They've done so much for me through the years so I was happy to help them out. I left Kyra at home watching TV and went across the street to read my magazine while John went to pick up Kurt, and Zoe still slept. Kyra knows my cell phone number and knows not to leave the house nor open the door for anyone. Zoe woke up and came downstairs about a minute before John returned. So it was a good thing that I was there.
Back at home I began pa

cking snacks for Kyra's class for the last day of CRCT testing. Last week I used zip-lock bags, but in honor of Earth Day, I opted for paper sacks for tomorrow. I also decided that I would ace the CRCT snack test by adding positive messages to the outside of each snack bag, such as Supercalifragilisticexpealidocious, cutie pie, genious, rockin' awesome, brainiac, superstar, love your smile, you're awesome, you're funny, too cool, etc. I hope the kids feel good about themselves after reading each unique bag label, and do well on their test!
