Today was "shadow day", where 5th graders of local elementary schools went to the middle school to experience what life will be like in the fall. Kyra came home proclaiming that she wants to be in the band. She says it's HIGHLY encouraged to join in 6th grade because you don't have to "tryout" at that level. I hadn't pushed it before because I knew her passion was baskeball which will conflict with band in 8th grade. But what the heck... if she wants to join band in 6th grade, when basketball is still rec-league, I'm open to the option. She says she wants to play the flute. (I played the saxophone in band, but one of my best friends/neighbor played the flute. I wonder if she still does...).
