voices
I lost my voice today and Kyra had fun with this challenge. She hijacked my facebook page and wrote that I couldn't yell at her if she left the door open to my room again and Riley stole another shoe to chew on. (This actually happened yesterday, minus the yelling part.) She pretended that she couldn't understand my whispered directions. She laughed, a lot. But the laughter ended when I couldn't read to her at bed time. Yes, at age 11, she still enjoys to be read to at night. Of course the books we read are more advanced now than when she was a toddler, and she reads most of the book on her own so I don't get full comprehension of the story line, but it's the only aspect of reading that she enjoys, so I'll keep doing it. She hates to read, but enjoys me reading to her. Maybe it's the silly voices that I create for the different characters to differentiate them. Or maybe it's simply the cuddle time. Not sure exactly what the lure is, but I do know that reading to or with your children is stressed as very important. Who knows, maybe if I read to her for another 7 years, she'll enjoy reading as an adult. At a minimum, she'll have this memory tucked in her head of me reading stories to her as she's tucked into bed. Night, night, sleep tight, don't let the bed bugs bite.
