I took the day off work and spent the morning doing laundry and packing while Kyra was at school. I finished packing, dropped the dogs off at FunnyBones, picked up sandwiches for lunch, and then checked Kyra out of school at lunch time, after CRCT testing was completed. Then we drove to Virginia... I really enjoyed her company! We talked about a wide range of topics for most of the drive. But then she got quiet and listened to her iPod on earphones, rather than through the stereo, about 30 minutes before we would meet her step-mom to exchange. Did she need the time to zone out? Kyra's dad is in a car race in Virginia this weekend. A little beyond Greensboro, I dropped Kyra off with her step mom. After the exchange, I drove for quite a few miles in silence, missing her. Then I turned on a running podcast to get my mind off missing her.
My original plan was to have a Chick-fil-A grilled chicken sandwich for dinner, but I drove and drove and didn't see a Chick-fil-A. I was starving and knew I needed to eat, so I settled for a McDonald's BBQ chicken snak/wrap instead. My running coach, Josh, called as I was driving, to check my mental state. I'm still coughing and my ear is still ringing, but I feel much better than I did last week and am optimisitic for a great day tomorrow. As I drove into Roanoke, I saw a star lighted up on top of a mountain and thought it was gorgeous! I wondered if I will see it tomorrow during the race.
I arrived at Rose Hill Bed and Breakfast in Roanoke, VA at around 8:30 p.m. By the time I checked in, it was too late to get to the race expo which was supposed to close at 9 p.m., so I settled into my room instead. Wendy, the B&B owner, said that she would serve fruit, muffins and tea/coffee at 5:30 a.m. for those of us staying in the house that will be running in the morning. How sweet! The house is gorgeous and so relaxing. I'm staying in the Garden Room. There is NO TV or phone in my room. YAY! However, there was a tray of water and fudge in the room... Made me very happy! As I readied for bed, I noticed how amazingly quiet it was. This place is AWESOME!
