physical therapy; book club

I was supposed to host Book Club last Monday, but two of the five active members couldn't come so we rescheduled it for tonight. I started a crock-pot of chili this morning, had my housekeeper come and clean, posted on Facebook that all ladies were welcome to join us at Book Club tonight (in hopes of expanding our group), went to work and then went to my first physical therapy appointment. Since this was my initial physical therapy appointment, and my leg was tender to touch, it simply consisted of diagnosis (hamstring tendonitis), ice and electrical stimulation. Afterwards, I went home to a clean house and finished preparing for guests. One by one they fell away. Connie sent an email saying she couldn't make it but looked forward to next month. What? She picked the book and was therefore supposed to lead the discussion... Oh well, I read the book so I guess I can lead the discussion. Mid-afternoon Susan sent an email saying her tennis team made it to the playoffs and she had to play tennis tonight. Rather than rescheduling it again, I opted to be happy with a small group. Then 10 minutes before Book Club was scheduled to begin, Jennifer called saying she couldn't make it. So, Book Club was short and sweet with only Amy an me. Amy hadn't read the book, so I summarized it to her. She liked the concept of the Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society's book club; they didn't all read the same book, but each person read a different book and individually presented a summary to the Book Club. Amy suggested that this might be a great alternative to our usual Book Club format since we have different tastes in books. And the more I thought of it, I tend to agree. After she left without eating, I regretted denying the few men that wanted to join the club. I had a whole crock-pot of chili, large loaf of bread, carrot cake, drinks, etc. remaining. I guess I can save the drinks, freeze the chili, and take the cake to the office.

I selected the book The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein as my choice for the upcoming month. I picked it based on the cover photo of a dog and thinking it meant running (racing) with a dog. The salesman at the bookstore said it was a good book too. But as I've read a few chapters in the prior week, I realize that it's my ex-husband's story of car racing, rather than running. I learned last week that my ex-husband's business partner, has purchased the movie rights for this book. I hope it's a story that my friends will enjoy rather than all about car racing... Joe says it's more about relationships than car racing, so I'm hopeful...
