Kyra's first basketball scrimmage playing on the GBL Parkview 5th Grade Girls team was today. Unfortunately, we only had 5 of the 8 players present. Two of our best players were in softball championship games and another girl had a wedding to attend. So... our five girls played as hard as they could during 20-minute mini-games against teams of 10+ girls that have played together for a few years. We lost badly... But we learned a lot too. Coach Rodney was very positive and continued saying that although he'd love to win, his most important goal is for the girls to develop throughout the season. I think the girls played better in the second game than they did the first, and better in the third than in the second. They learned that GBL is definitely a lot rougher and faster paced than recreation league. It was an eye-opener for all of us. Kyra scored two 3-pointers and led the team in points for the day. Here's hoping we'll have more girls that can play next week in the Jamboree!
Game stats:
Game 1: Parkview 5, Duluth 20. Kyra scored 3 of the 5.
Game 2: Parkview 0, Buford 24.
Game 3: Parkview 5, Mill Creek 22. Kyra scored 3 of the 5.
