The meet started and all seemed to be going well. Kyra's first event was the 25-yard backstroke. This wasn't one of her choices for events to swim, but she did awesome! Since she hasn't swam backstroke in a while, I timed her at 21.xx seconds. She won her heat by a landslide and received a heat winner ribbon. But when the results came out, the timer wrote down 31.xx seconds and she ended up being listed in 17th place when in actuallity, she was in 1st place. This caused a lot of tears, but there was nothing we could do. Human error sucks when you're a 10-year old. She also swam the 25-yard freestyle, 25-yard butterfly, medley relay, and freestyle relay. She came in 3rd place in the 25-yard freestyle, 1st place in butterfly, 1st place in the medly relay, and 2nd place in the freestyle relay. Her medley relay team was behind after the first two legs, but when Kyra jumped in at butterfly, she pulled into the lead, and Erin as freestyler kept the lead to the end. Way to go FLY GIRL! After the first swim meet of the season, she's ranked #15 in Gwinnett County in the girls age 9-10 butterfly. GO KYRA!!! GO KYRA!!! GO KYRA!!!
It poured rain during most of the meet and I ended up holding an umbrella over a group of timers' heads for practically the entire last half of the meet. Kyra sat in a chair with her own umbrella over her head while waiting for her final events. I kept looking over at her wishing I could be there sitting beside her instead of holding an umbrella for Lane 4. But after K's last event she came over and stood with me while we timed the final events. I told her she could go home if she wanted to since it was still pouring rain, she was cold and wet, our house is just next door, and the meet was nearing completion. But she said she wanted to stay until the end. She's such a trooper! I'm so proud of you baby!
