Today is the 1st day of my 17-week Chicago marathon training plan (Level 2 - Intermediate Runner). The plan calls for a 5-mile run today plus strength training. I got up early and did 5 miles on the treadmill while Kyra was still asleep. I feel highly motivated to follow this training plan. I used the Hal Higdon beginner plan last year for the Spinxfest Marathon in Greenville, SC. I liked that training plan, although I didn't do all the runs, but since I'm running Chicago with Tonya and Lisa, and Tonya wants to follow the Chicago Intermediate plan, I'll do the same. If I follow that plan, I think I'll be better prepared for Chicago than I was for the Spinxfest.
I went to work for a few hours and left the office at 2:15 p.m. to pick up Kyra for our 6-month dental appointments. Kyra only has one more baby tooth to lose. And that one is loose with an adult tooth already half-way grown in over it. Our usual dentist retired and his replacement seemed nice. He gave us a referral to an orthodontist. Kyra has some over-crowding, but it's mild. I knew this day would come, since our prior dentist said he'd wait until she'd lost all her baby teeth, but just thought I would have another year or so. She's lost quite a few teeth in the last 6 months. Kyra was texting Sophia while we were on the way to the dentist and Sophia said she was on the way to the orthodontist. After our dentist visit I called Tonya to see who they were going to and if she had shopped around. She said she knew people that use the orthodontist that they visited, but didn't do any comparison shopping. I put out a Facebook message asking about local orthodontists and a few people recommended the orthodontist that our dentist had recommended. And a few other people highly recommended an orthodontist in Snellville, not too far away. I think I'm going to wait to make the first appointment for late July, after Kyra returns from camp. And if it can wait, I'll probably put off the actual getting of braces until 2010 so I can increase my deductions for my health savings account so it can be paid for with pre-tax money. The past few months have had major expenses, so if I can put it off a little longer, I will.
Tonya, Sophia and Natalie stopped by the pool as Kyra was finishing her swim team practice. Then the girls went up to the house to see the "club house" as Tonya and I chatted at the pool. They're leaving for Europe in two days. I hope they have a great trip! We'll miss them!
