reason to shave; Riley graduates

This is why you lady athletes should shave your legs regularly... My goal was to run 3 miles to meet my new weekly mileage plan to build up to the Chicago intermediate training schedule. I went to bed early last night and set the alarm clock for 8 a.m. Riley woke me up, for the second time, at 7:21, so I went ahead and got up. I pulled out the stop watches from the basement for swim team and made cheese toast for breakfast. At 8:30 a.m. I headed out for a 3-mile run. This is my third day of running in a row, which is more than I'm used to. My entire body feels a little sore, but in a good way. It's cool (70 oF) and sunny and I'm listening to an old, but yet unlistened to podcast from UltraDad. I miss him... I enter a cruising zone and am just enjoying the outdoors, but not paying enough attention to my surroundings. Then all of a sudden, at 1.3 miles into my run, my foot slammed into uneven sidewalk and I went flying. I landed on my hands and knees in the middle of the sidewalk because there was no space between the railing on one side and the street on the other. OW! I sat in the grass/sidewalk for a few minutes in shock and assessing the damage. Several cars were driving by when I did the swan dive, but noone stopped. My hand and left knee start to bleed instantly and I have abrasions on my right knee and left shin as well. I decide to eventually get up and then head back home. I start jogging, but alternate in more walking as the pain increases.

When I finally get home, both knees are swollen and my hand and left knee are pooling blood. I have 30 minutes left to get ready to arrive at church on time. I shower and shave my legs while I'm still in shock and it hurts less than it will in a few hours. Yesterday I thought I should shave, but decided to wait until Sunday morning. Now I wish I hadn't. OWWWW!!!!! I can't bear the thought of putting on a skirt or dress that will touch my knee or shin, so I opt for dressy long shorts that hit slightly above the knee and a nice blouse. I put bandaids on my palm and worst part of my knee that are still bleeding freely.
I arrived at church a few minutes late, but better late than never. I prayed though the pain, focusing on the lesson. The last hymn was "Onward Christian Soldier". I don't know if that's the title, but it's the primary theme. I remember singing this hymn at my granny's church and smiled visualizing her standing beside me singing this. She passed on almost two decades ago, yet I visualized her perfectly. I flipped between smiles and tears, instantaneously, trying to focus on the happy thoughts.
Today was Riley's last day of Beginner obedience training. He did well today, as usual. He received a diplomma, toy ball, and treat biscuit for completing the class. I was proud. The instructor told us about the Intermediate class and offered a $10 off coupon if we enroll today. She said the Intermediate class includes 8 sessions, which don't have to be completed in a row but is more on the honor session. She said the Intermediate class is combined with the Advanced class because the newer pups learn from the more advanced pups and the newer pups give the advanced pups more distractions to practice their skills. She said that Thursday's were almost full, Wednesdays are the class that she teaches more "tricks" in, Saturday's were least favorable because it's puppy adoption day, and Sundays were also an option. The Sunday class is at 11:30, which would intervere with our church schedule. Kyra takes horse riding lessons on Saturdays and she has swim meets on Thursdsays. Kyra eventually wants to enter Riley in Rally or Agility competitions and we've talked about more advanced lessons. So I signed us up for Wednesday nights at 8 p.m. I told the instructor that Kyra will be away at camp for a few weeks, and that although I could bring Riley on those weeks, I'd rather skip them and have our 8 lessons be ones that Kyra can be at. She was totally cool with that. She seems to think that Kyra and Riley have a great bond and can go far after they better master the basics. Now if we can only get him to stop chewing...
As we were leaving PetsMart, my abrasions really began to sting. I dropped Riley off at home and then went to Walgreens. I bought a spray that is supposed to numb the pain. It stung worse for about 10 minutes, but eventually got better.
I talked to Laura for a few minutes and then went to the practice swim meet for our neighborhood pool. It was weird not having Ty park in my driveway! She's been a regular for years, but they're not doing swim team this year because of lots of travel. Lauri's taking her place in my driveway and Amber parked there too. Lots of people noticed my shredded legs and asked what happened. It was also weird being there without Kyra.
Afterwards I went to the tennis courts with Danita and saw several people I haven't seen in a while. When I said hello to Wendy, she was all excited and said that she and Deedee are coming to Chicago to cheer Ty, Lisa and me on at the race!!! She said they found great airfare, but haven't booked a hotel yet. She thanked me profusely for running the race saying they were coming to support us and were looking forward to partying. We are the reason they are going. I thanked her for her support and was honestly suprised. I called Ty when I got home and she said she only recently heard about them coming too. She reassured me that her plans were still the same, mellow weekend with our daughters and no intention of partying before the race. I'm glad we're still on the same page. It sounds like Wendy and Deedee were just looking for an excuse to go to Chicago. Deedee actually wanted to run the marathon, but it's sold out. I'm glad they're coming to support us, but hope they're not too disappointed when we don't stay out all night partying with them. Don't get me wrong, Ty and I like to party but we're more serious about our running.
